Purpose of the Survey

This report presents the results of a survey on students’ preferences and habits in their physical activities. The main objective of this survey is to see how often the students practice sports and what type of sport they prefer. With this survey we can also learn whether of the girls or the boys practice and pay attention to their health by doing some physical activities.

Naturally, College Edouard-Montpetit’s students answered the survey. So this is our population for this small study. Most of the respondents are studying in technical fields (almost 63% of them) and 50% of the respondents are female. This questionnaire contained nine multiple-choice questions and one open-ended question where the students told us what they are looking for in a sport.

The obtained results show that running is the favourite students sport as this graphic shows when we look at one of the specific survey’s questions.

We also learn that the majority of the students who answered this survey doesn’t go to a gym like ``Nautilus`` or ``Energie Cardio`` to keep them in shape. This graphic shows this disproportion.

Even if 100% of the respondents think that doing sport helps to keep them in shape, more than 32% of them practice sports less than 2 hours weekly. This other graphic shows how much time the respondents put in their physical activities.

The research underlines the importance of physical activities in students’ lives. Now we know that 25 % of the population practices sports more than 5 hours weekly and only 38% of them go to a gym to improve their physical condition. We learn also that the majority prefer basketball and skiing after running. Plus, we learned that nobody plays baseball among all the respondents. But the most surprising result is for hockey. Only one student in 5 prefers hockey over any other sport even if it’s our national sport.

This research helped us to understand why the students practice sports. Most of them do it to having fun before everything and to feel better after their activities. They also do this to maintain their physical condition. If everybody practiced more than 5 hours weekly, probably our society would be more in health and less money might be spent for the healthcare. Everyone wins by practicing physical activities even if they are not professional athletes.

Survey about Sports

Thursday, February 23, 2006

Montreal is one of the biggest cities in the world. It's now the third city with the most people in Canada behind Toronto and Calgary. There are a lot of things that happen here like the Expo in 1967 and the summer Olympics Games in 1976. We also have a fantastic hockey team named the Canadiens of Montreal. This team won the Stanley Cup more than any other team in it's history.

If you come here, you can visit the Biodome, we have also the Insectarium where you can taste some insects. You can also go to La Ronde during summer and enjoy the fireworks and all other great attractions like the <> and the Jazz festival
